Just for a minute, imagine, what if we had no memory?
Imagine the entire human race without memory, what would
have really happened?
We would not have remembered our homes, our names- who we
are, who our family is or friends, nothing! Every single person would have been
a stranger.
Now you know how important this is, how vital it is, for the
survival of our species. Memory plays an integral role in our lives. The
stronger it is the better off we are. Work on your memory, and you will reduce
your working hours, especially when preparing for competitive exam like JEE,
CAT, CPT, SAT, AIPMT etc.
Here are some tips to improve your memory.
Here are some tips to improve your memory.
1. Using
Association techniques: Perhaps, one of the oldest tricks in the book, this
technique demand you to associate things you want to remember with funny
things, sceneries or situations to retain them better. The weirder the
situation, the better and easy it is to remember. For example: While placing
your bike keys in your cupboard imagine that your cupboard suddenly got wheels
and started running around the house.
2. Use
categorizing/chunking: Another very effective technique is to divide large
things into smaller and similar chunks. For ex. 9878378932787234839403284789687
is difficult to remember, but to make it easier, let’s divide this into
quadruples, like 9878-3789-3278-7234-8394-0328-4789-687. The same can be done
with shopping list, categorize similar items into different categories, you
will remember them better. This is especially effective while learning formulae
for IIT JEE, CAT and CPT.
3. Stop thinking that you have a poor memory all the time: If you feel that you have a poor memory and want to improve it, start by thinking otherwise. Stay positive, it’s seen that positive affirmations do wonders when it comes to the matters of mind.
4. Exercise
your brain: This is especially easy for mobile buffs out there, install a
few interactive and mental exercise games available on mobile. Instead of
wasting your time on surfing. Play these little games in your short breaks and
you will see drastic improvement in due time. Neurons actually form more connections
if you use them in particular areas and in time build stronger circuitry for
the same responses thereby increasing your brain power.
5. Say
out loud the things you want to remember: Saying things loudly helps to
remember them better, you use two major sense while saying it, your tongue and
ears, also whenever you are trying to learn something new, try to be mindful
and pay full attention to all your sense, it is a very helpful technique to
enhance your memory.
Last but not the least, have a
proper and nutritious diet. Out of the daily nutrition requirements, our brain
requires the highest portion. Taking a proper diet will ensure that your mind
has surplus nutrients to maintain itself in the best condition.
