Things to Avoid While Preparing for Competitive exams

Preparing for competitive exams like IIT JEE, CPT, AIPMT and NDA and cracking them, is amongst one of the toughest tasks that you can do, it’s almost insane-level tough! This task will test your brains and your grit to the highest level. The hours of study required will simply eat up a big chunk of your life, but it’s worth it, though, only when
you succeed!
If you are amongst the ones who have taken up this mission, you will get enough advices and lectures regarding what to do and what not to! Don’t worry we are not giving you the same; on the contrary, we are telling you what not to do. Sounds good, doesn’t it!
1.   Don’t become a bookworm: Sounds contradictory! Right? Well, here the thing, being a book worm never helps, it always better to choose methods that are effective. Plain simple hard work is good, but not great. Choose methods that are intelligent and effective. Don’t just keep studying all day, interact with others, and watch a little TV or something. Try to talk to different people. This not only develops you in other areas but also refreshes your brain resulting in more effective studies.
2.    Never cut on your sleep: No matter what your instincts tell you or what others tell you, never ever cut on your sleep. If you are doing it already, stop it! Skipping on sleeping hours becomes a habit very soon and it doesn’t take much long, before night vultures start glorifying it. It’s an absolutely bad habit. You won’t realize the damage it’s doing but it does come affront one day. Sleep is vital for optimal functioning of the body. It is when you sleep that your brain stores whatever you have learnt into the more permanent parts of its memory. Your body also recovers and repairs damaged tissues and cells while sleeping. A minimum of 6-8 hours is sleep is compulsory for optimum performance.
3.     Don’t set impractical deadlines: It’s very appealing to overdo your schedules and time tables, so much so that you end up devoting 18+ hours to study, which you know is impossible to achieve, but you still do, cause’ it looks awesome on paper! Everybody has done that at some point of time. Don’t do this! Set deadlines that you can actually achieve, achieving your deadlines on a regular basis will boost your confidence and form the attitude of achieving your deadlines, which is very good in the long run.
4.    Don’t panic: The Exam date is looming over your head and you feel that you have not prepared as well as you should have! Don’t worry, everybody feels the same way. You have studied and worked hard as much as you could and there’s no point in fretting over this when the D-day is near because this will only set panic and will affect your performance.
5.    Don’t be unorganized: Last but not the least, don’t be unorganized. The more unorganized you are regarding your syllabus, the more you will waste your time over what to study and what not to! Also there’s a fat chance that you might skip on something important. Maintain a plan of action, checklist all the topics that you have prepared. This single activity will give you enough perception of the bigger picture and keep you motivated and save you from wasting time.
