By definition rural areas mean areas having low connectivity
and low population density. Rural areas lack the basic amenities and
connectivity that is required to live a comfortable life. Communication too,
was a problem until mobile technology arrived and since then much has changed
owing to the same. In this blog, we are mentioning some key areas where mobile
technology has left its mark for the better.
1.Communication:
As obvious it may sound, but before mobiles, the biggest problem faced by the
populace in these areas was the lack of a reliable means of communication.
Landlines were mostly not available, and the areas that had them, faced severe
and frequent disconnection problems. Mobiles have made it possible for general
populace to be connected within themselves and with the outer world at all times. In cases of emergency, mobiles have managed to save a lot of lives.
2.Education:
Education is the non-official-but-integral part of a man’s basic needs for food,
clothing and shelter. Mobiles have made it possible for masses to avail quality
education. With emerging platforms like iProf, it is now possible for kids to
connect with the best teachers throughout the country and avail their courses
from the comfort of their homes. It is a common problem for students living in
rural areas to find good teachers, to do so they have to locate to different
places. Now, using mobile technology and apps like iProf, they can connect with
the faculty of their choice and access their course material for free. For
people other than students, internet is the solution to most of their queries,
problems etc.
3.Personal Safety:
Some areas are infamous for crimes and hard life. With mobiles everybody can
communicate instantly with their family members and friends in times of need
and also seek external help from police, doctors, firemen and disaster
management organizations. Emerging mobile technology has led people able to
access GPS (Global Positing System) technology, using which they can find the
exact locations of their loved ones at all time. The same is also beneficial in
times of adversities and disasters amenities
4.Entertainment:
Not everybody is well off to afford a Television or a radio/mp3 player or
computer in rural areas where most people are simply struggling to meet their
basic needs. Advances in mobile technology and the low entering price point
have made it possible to combine all these features into a single hand-held
device that can be carried anywhere and be used without an active electrical connection,
on battery. Power cuts are a common happening in rural areas and in hours such
as these one can simply resort to their mobile to have some joy, some
entertainment after a hard day’s work.
5.Library: Rural areas often lack
libraries wherein locals can visit and read different books and newspapers to
stay better afloat with what’s happening in the outside world. Mobiles offer a
vastly improved solution for this lack. On mobile, people can read different
newspapers in different languages; there are lots of apps available for it.
Along with this, they can also read and rent different books and increase their
knowledge and entertain themselves as well at any time.
